The Gift Isn’t the Point… The Giver Is
The Gift Isn’t The Point – Blog Series Part 1
It’s Christmas time, so naturally I’ve been thinking a lot about gifts.
The ones we give… the ones we receive… and the ones God places inside of us.
When we hear the word gift, our minds usually go to something tangible. Something wrapped. Something exciting. Something we open once… and then move on.
But when it comes to God, gifts don’t work that way.
Because with God…
the gift is never the point.
The Giver is.
From the Beginning

From the very beginning, God has been a Giver. Scripture tells us that every good and perfect gift comes from above, coming down from the Father. Not from our effort. Not from our striving. From Him.
And the greatest gift God ever gave wasn’t a blessing… or a breakthrough… or even a calling.
It was His Son.
“For God so loved the world that He gave…”
Before God ever asked anything of us…
He gave.
And here’s what we sometimes miss.
Jesus wasn’t given simply to rescue us from hell.
He was given so we could know God.
Salvation wasn’t the finish line.
It was the doorway.
And somewhere along the way, many of us stopped at the doorway.
We opened the gift of salvation…
said the prayer…
had the moment…
and then we said, “Thank you, God,” and walked away with the box still half-full.
Salvation Is Not A One-Time Gift
Salvation is not a one-time gift meant to be admired from a distance.
It’s a living gift.
A relational gift.
A gift that keeps opening.
Inside salvation is peace you haven’t yet experienced.
Purpose you haven’t yet stepped into.
Healing you haven’t yet accessed.
Gifts you haven’t yet discovered.
And all of it exists for one reason…
to draw you closer to the Giver.
God does not give gifts to impress us.
He gives gifts to connect with us.
God Was The Point

When God taught me how to play the piano in 2020… supernaturally, unexpectedly, without lessons… the piano wasn’t the point.
God was.
He created me with a deep love for music, so He used music as a language of connection between us. He met me where my heart was already wired to respond.
Yes, the gift was used to encourage others.
It was used to build up the body through worship.
And it was used publicly.
But before it ever reached a platform…
It was a private invitation.
An invitation to intimacy.
An invitation to obedience.
An invitation to glorify Him.
Gifts Are Tools
Because spiritual gifts are never meant to terminate on us.
They are meant to move through us…
and lead us back to Him.
That’s why Scripture says gifts are given for the common good. Not for our identity. Our for our validation. And not for worth.
Gifts are tools.
And when we elevate the tool above the Craftsman…
we miss the whole point.
The Gift Isn’t The Point – The Giver Is
So here’s the question worth sitting with…
What are you doing with the gifts God has given you?
Did you stop at opening salvation?
Or are you still digging?
Have you settled for being saved…
without ever asking God what else He wants to reveal?
Because there is always more with Him.
More depth.
More trust.
More surrender.
More discovery.
The tragedy isn’t that God has stopped giving.
It’s that we stopped seeking the Giver.
The gift isn’t the point.
The Giver is.
